Adirondank Leaves: A Spiced Apple Fall Cocktail
This cocktail is the liquid equivalent of fall in a glass - full of iconic spices that are reminiscent of apple pie but with a refreshing tropical twist! Insanely delicious and perfectly balanced, just shake everything up and let your tastebuds soak in the fall bliss. Garnish with freshly grated cinnamon and nutmeg for that extra seasonal touch!
Today’s cocktail recipe is brought to you by my husband Nick who indulges my cocktail cravings even after I offer the most helpful tips like “make something that tastes good” and “can you make it taste like fall?” 😂 Nick frequently dabbles in cocktail making and occasionally concocts recipes that are pure perfection - like this one, which I immediately declared as a banger after taking my first sip. It’s that good! I’ll let Nick pick it up from here.
About the Cocktail
It was a crisp autumn day, as Teo and I walked through the magnificent forests of the Adirondacks feeling the leaves beneath our feet, the breeze against our faces… Just kidding, I know you didn’t come here to read a novel (no shade against those other food bloggers out there, but let’s just say 10/10 times I’m scrolling straight through those posts to the recipe).
Let’s get straight to the point. It’s fall. You’re thirsty for a drink that is the liquid equivalent of vibrant foliage popping across your taste buds. The liquid equivalent of Johnny Appleseed eating that first dank crispy McIntosh from his orchards.
For this fall-inspired cocktail, I’ve paired one of my current favorite spirits - Smith & Cross rum - with a variety of ingredients to create a drink that’s refreshing and full of spicy apple notes, reminiscent of an apple pie, but with tropical notes. So crushable you might just forget about the 151 rum, and after a few find yourself waxing poetic about how a recipe for sweet potato mac and cheese with broccoli and kale may or may not be the next great American novel.
Adirondank Leaves: A Spiced Apple Fall Cocktail
Makes 1
Ingredients
2 oz. Smith & Cross rum (or any other Jamaican style overproof rum)
¼ oz. 151 rum (aka lighter fluid aka rocket fuel)
1 oz. apple cider
¾ oz. lemon juice (fresh squeezed or GTFO)
½ oz. falernum syrup (I used BG Reynolds)
½ oz apple-spiced syrup (I used Marcus Samuelsson’s recipe here)
2 dashes Angostura bitters
Directions
Combine ingredients into a cocktail shaker with about 4 large ice cubes. Shake vigorously and strain into a rocks glass filled with one large ice cube.
Extra fall points: top with freshly grated cinnamon and nutmeg for that true apple pie in a glass experience.
